LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington Sporting Club is happy to announce the signing of former FC Cincinnati Academy forward Joshua Head will be joining the club’s USL League One roster pending league and federation approval.
Born in Owensboro, Ky., Head joins Lexington SC at the back end of its inaugural USL League One season.
The 19-year-old forward was formerly a member of FC Cincinnati 2 in the MLS Next Pro League.
Head played three matches for Cincinnati 2 in 2022, starting in two, and managed to record an assist during his time on the pitch.
Head is the third Kentucky-born athlete on the League One roster while Diallo Irakoze, despite being born in Tanzania, also grew up in Lexington.
“It means everything (to sign with Lexington SC),” Head said. “My whole life this is what I’ve wanted to be – a professional soccer player – and Lexington has provided me the opportunity to be able to play the game I love at a high level and I just can’t wait to be able to express my talents and my hard work. This is a great first club to be at with great fans and support and a great environment all around.”
When asked about his goals for the remainder of the season, Head said, “Get minutes with the team and score some goals and hopefully help the team to make a push for the playoffs and beyond. I expect big things of myself and I just hope to help the team in as many ways as I can whether it’s just with hard work, scoring goals, or off the field.”
“We are extremely excited to have Josh Head signed with us for the entire season with the option to extend,” Lexington SC Head Coach Sam Stockley said. “Since he’s been with us he has worked extremely hard and shown real good quality. Josh fits our profile as a young striker: (he’s) physically and athletically astute, technically very good, and has a huge hunger to score goals as well as a great work rate and a desire to progress within our game model.”
Stockley and club management are optimistic that Head, along with a plethora of other young stars within the club, will be pivotal to not just the club’s ability to compete and win matches now, but also in its ability to be sustainable for years to come.
“We believe that Josh will be a great prospect to grow into the future of the club along with several other young stars, which fits our philosophy of providing opportunities to young talent across the Bluegrass region,” Stockley said.

Lexington Sporting Club will return to action on Saturday, August 26, with nine matches remaining in the 2023 USL League One season.
