TAMPA, Fla. – Lexington SC’s Ates Diouf was named USL League One Player of the Month for September, the league office announced Wednesday.
The club competed in six matches in the month of September, going 0-2-4 in the month. It recorded draws against Greenville Triumph SC and Charlotte Ind. and away at CV Fuego FC and Forward Madison.
Diouf started in all but one of the six matches, entering LSC’s match against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC after halftime.
During the month, Diouf slotted home five goals, scoring a brace in both the 2-2 draw against CV Fuego FC and the club’s loss against the Red Wolves. His fifth goal was a standalone in the club’s 2-2 draw against Forward Madison.
Diouf’s prolific goal-scoring ability saw the Senegalese forward jump up to a staggering 15 goals scored this season, becoming just the sixth player in league history to notch the figure.
“I am very happy and proud to be announced as Player of the Month,” Diouf said. “This would not be possible without the help of my teammates and coaching staff. I look forward to continuing to improve my game.”
Lexington SC is scheduled to play one more match in its inaugural professional season, traveling to Greenville to face the Triumph in the final matchday of the league’s regular season.
Off the pitch the club recently debuted its renderings and location for the future soccer-specific home stadium that is set to be ready by the beginning of the club’s inaugural USL Super League season.
