TAMPA, Fla. – Lexington SC set-piece specialist Tate Robertson was named to the USL League One Week 22 Team of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The honor marked the second consecutive week that Robertson had earned the first-team honor.
Lexington SC was triumphant 3-2 in a revenge match at home against CV Fuego FC, earning its second consecutive win after defeating NC Hailstorm FC last week, which earned Ates Diouf the honor of being USL League One Week 21 Player of the Week.
Robertson scored his second goal of the season against Hailstorm FC to also feature one week ago, but his claim to fame this week was even more impressive.
Not only did “Chef Robo”, as the supporters call him, cook up his third goal of the season from a beautiful free kick in just the fourth minute of the match against Fuego, he also returned to what had put him on so many league watch lists prior in the season: his assist game.
Just minutes after scoring his third of the season, Robertson sent a beautiful ball into teammate Nico Brown, earning the club’s second-leading scorer his seventh goal of the season and granting Robertson his seventh assist, which leaves him tied for second in the league in assist total.
With two goal contributions in less than five minutes, it’s little surprise that Robertson returned to the Team of the Week for his efforts to, not just help Lexington earn a revenge win, but continue to push ahead as it continues to try to fight for a playoff spot in the backend of the season.
“I want to see [my teammates] do well and I want to see them score goals,” Robertson said. “I try to help them and help the team. If they’re scoring goals and I’m assisting them then we’re going to be on the right foot.”
Next up for Lexington SC the boys in green will hit the road in the final rivalry match of the season against One Knoxville SC. After that the club will return home on August 26th to face off against Richmond Kickers.
